Immigrant-led human rights organization partners with TGG for legislative support

Challenge: Somos Un Pueblo Unido, the only immigrant-led human rights group in New Mexico was facing an uphill battle over driver’s licenses for undocumented populations during the 2011 and 2012 New Mexico legislative sessions. Growing fear and misinformation had polarized opinions on the issue and halted progress on compromise legislation, and repeal of the law granting driver’s licenses to undocumented immigrants seemed eminent.

Solution: The Garrity Group partnered with Somos Un Pueblo Unido to provide strategic communication counsel, develop content for the organization’s website and blog, create talking points and Frequently Asked Question (FAQ) sheets, and coordinate media outreach. The Garrity Group also organized editorial board meetings, developed Op-Eds and letters to the editor to support Somos’ message and goal of preventing repeal of the immigrant driver’s license law.

Result: In coordination with Somos’ base of supporters, The Garrity Group’s efforts were credited by the client to prevent repeal.
